The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a press release on Monday, September 1, that the prize money for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will be four times higher than it was for the men’s World Cup in 2023, bringing the total to $13.88 million.
According to the ICC, the winners will get $4.48 million, which is more than the $1.32 million that Australia got after the 2022 tournament in New Zealand. The second-place team will get $2.24 million, the losing semi-finalists will get $1.12 million, and each win in the group stage is worth $34,314. Teams that come in fifth and sixth will each get $700,000. Teams that come in seventh and eighth will each get $280,000. Every team that takes part is guaranteed $250,000.
The 13th Women’s World Cup will take place from September 30 to November 2, 2025 at four locations of India: Guwahati, Indore, Navi Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam , as well as Colombo in Sri Lanka, according to ICC match schedule.
Jay Shah, the chairman of the ICC, stated that the rise was “a defining milestone in the journey of women’s cricket.” He also noted that the message from the governing organization is that women who choose to play professionally “will be treated on par with men.” (Statement as quoted by the ICC.)
The governing body noted that the raise fits with its larger plan to speed up the women’s game and comes after its choice to make pay equal before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
