Viral SFO airport video sparks questions after lawmakers condemn detention and DHS names two women arrested

A video of a woman being escorted by federal agents at San Francisco International Airport, with a small child standing nearby, has gone viral, sparking new questions about what exactly happened at the airport and who was involved.

The person who filmed the video claims that the woman was a U.S. citizen who was accompanied by her young daughter. However, it is not clear whether this is actually the case, but it has certainly sparked a lot of reaction.

The incident prompted a response from Nancy Pelosi and Kevin Mullin, who said the video showed a mother being aggressively detained in front of her daughter. They called the scene heartbreaking and said they want immediate answers about the woman’s condition, the child’s condition, and the legal grounds for the detention.

The situation was also used to comment on the Trump administration and the way it handled immigration, with Pelosi and Mullin saying that they were relieved to know that it was not related to the ICE officers being placed at the airport to assist with TSA security. However, it seems that was not the case.

The Department of Homeland Security then released a statement explaining the situation. In a statement posted by DHS, the agency said ICE officers arrested Angelina Lopez-Jimenez and Wendy Godinez-Lopez at San Francisco International Airport on March 22, 2026.

According to DHS, the two women are in the U.S. illegally and have been under a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge since 2019. However, the arrests occurred before ICE officers were deployed to the airport to assist the TSA.

Lopez-Jimenez attempted to flee and resisted the officers as she was escorted to the international terminal for processing, DHS said. ICE is currently working to return the family unit to Guatemala.
