Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez said that Caracas is prepared to build a balanced and respectful relationship with the USA and called upon them to join a cooperation agenda with a focus on development under international law, as reported on Instagram.
Through a message that targeted the world in general and the United States in particular, President Rodríguez reiterated the dedication of Venezuela to peace and to the peaceful coexistence of the people, as well as the desire to be able to breathe without threats in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation from the worldwide community.
She underlined “the sovereignty equality and non-intervention principles on which Venezuelan foreign policy is based” and stated these principles are “essential” in relations between Venezuela and the U.S. and in relations between Venezuela and the rest of the region.
Rodriguez even addressed Donald Trump, the current president of the U.S., stating that the Venezuelan people and the surrounding area of the globe need to feel the effects of peace, dialogue, and not war. This, she says, corresponds to the long-term vision of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro:
“The declaration emphasized all of Venezuela’s rights to peace, development, sovereignty, and a bright future and represented dialogue as a preferred path to ease tensions,” she explained.
These statements come at a time when Venezuela is under international scrutiny. The government in Caracas seems to promote it as a diplomatic strategy that will reduce the possibility of conflict.
