Trump says U.S. and India are pressing ahead on talks to reduce trade barriers

Trump signals momentum on US-India trade negotiations, with a call to PM Modi expected in the coming weeks.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said on Truth Social that the US and India are still talking about trade barriers and that he hopes to talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi “in the next few weeks.” He said that both countries would reach a successful conclusion.

The White House hasn’t said anything more about when or how long the conversations will last.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative indicated earlier this year that both parties had set terms of reference for a possible bilateral trade agreement. This showed that the U.S. has long been worried about India’s non-tariff and import-quality restrictions.
