26 Nations Back Security Guarantees for Ukraine After Paris Talks- Zelenskyy says

Zelenskyy, Trump speak after Paris meeting as EU sets a three-pillar plan—strong Ukrainian forces, reassurance units with U.S. backing, and a tougher European defense posture.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a high-level “Coalition of the Willing” conference in Paris on Thursday that 26 countries had agreed in principle to grant Ukraine security guarantees. Important European leaders and the United States endorse this plan, which aims to dissuade Russia from being aggressive in the future and create a long-lasting security structure after the war.

Zelenskyy said in a post on X that he, and the team had a conversation with President Donald Trump for a long time after the summit in Paris. He said it was “a long and very detailed conversation” about how to move things forward toward “real peace.” He argued that the only way to stop Russia’s war machine from getting money and supplies is to put economic pressure on the country. He also added that Kyiv has come up with a means to make air defenses stronger to protect Ukrainian airspace. He also added that he and Trump had vowed to keep in touch. Reports on the talks and Zelenskyy’s comments claim that the call came after a conference of European leaders who all agreed on what to do next to achieve guarantees.

Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, said that the new plan will be built on three main ideas: a powerful Ukrainian army, “reassurance forces” supported by the US, and a stronger European military stance. She said in messages and remarks before and after the Paris meeting that the coalition’s goal is to make it feasible for peace to last and to “move forward” on those main duties.

Zelenskyy also said that sanctions and trade restrictions were making things much harder for Moscow. He stated that people were talking about additional and secondary sanctions and special tariffs as means to damage the Russian economy and individuals who do business with it. He stated that Kyiv is working on papers that say what each country would do to enhance Ukraine’s security and how much they will spend in the long run. He also emphasized that a strong Ukrainian military will always be the most crucial feature of any guarantee system.

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, claimed that the “reassurance force” in the plan would be there to protect the peace and not launch a war with Russia. His government co-chairs the coalition with the UK. The 26 signatories have committed to take part in several areas, including airspace, training, and possible deployments after the cease-fire, as long as the conditions for a settlement are right, according to news sources.

After their summit, Macron, other European leaders, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy talked on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump. Macron indicated that the U.S. would finalize its contributions to the guarantees in the next few days.

The Russian Foreign Ministry repeated its refusal to support any Western soldier presence in Ukraine as part of a peace agreement, emphasizing the political and military sensitivities surrounding any post-war mission.

Zelenskyy said that continued U.S. involvement is “important,” and he talked about cooperation in various areas, like initiatives that help Ukraine buy American weapons more easily. He emphasized that promises need to be put in place so that they will survive “a year from now, five years from now, and ten years from now.” Money, weapons, and military manufacturing should be at the center of these guarantees. While leaders decide who will do what and when, Kyiv deems the Paris outcome the most concrete step in months toward providing Ukraine long-term, enforceable security.
