UAE Pardons 267 Nepali Inmates, Opening Path for Return Home

Nepal’s Foreign Ministry thanked the UAE for the pardon granted on Eid Al Etihad, citing goodwill in bilateral ties.

The government of Nepal said Sunday that the United Arab Emirates has granted a pardon to 267 Nepali inmates, clearing the way for them to return home once required legal steps are completed.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal expressed its “sincere gratitude and appreciation” for the pardon, which was granted to the Nepali inmates on the occasion of the 54th National Day of the United Arab Emirates, Eid Al Etihad.

The pardon, it said, is a friendly gesture and a humanitarian act, a reflection of the goodwill and cordial relations between Nepal and the UAE.

The pardon was granted following repeated requests from Nepal’s embassy in the UAE, made at the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal.

The Nepali citizens who have been granted a pardon will be able to return to Nepal if they do not have any other legal cases or restrictions to contend with, it is stated.

Nepal has long relied on labor migration to Gulf countries, including the UAE, and the Nepali embassy in Abu Dhabi is responsible for handling welfare and legal cases involving Nepali citizens abroad.
