President Donald Trump said Saturday he will likely sue author Michael Wolff, accusing him of conspiring with the late Jeffrey Epstein to damage Trump’s political career.
Trump made the comments to the press on Air Force One a day after new federal records related to Epstein were made public. In a The White House exchange posted online, Trump stated that he would “probably” bring the lawsuit and indicated that Wolff’s journalism was part of a conspiracy with Epstein.
The comments followed a Friday announcement by the U.S. Department of Justice that it published over 3 million additional pages responsive to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, along with more than 2,000 videos and about 180,000 images. DOJ said the new posting brought the total made public under the act to nearly 3.5 million pages.
According to the Epstein Library maintained by the U.S. Department of Justice, the contents of the library “may include descriptions of sexual assault,” and the library will be updated if additional documents are found for release. The postings also state that because of the large number of documents, “sensitive or non-public personal information may be included even after review and redaction.” U.S. Department of Justice
Trump did not offer any evidence of the conspiracy and did not state what claims would be brought in the lawsuit.
For background, the House Oversight Committee has previously released redacted emails between Jeffrey Epstein and author Michael Wolff. The documents released by House Oversight Democrats show the two men discussing various topics related to the media. The documents are very limited and heavily redacted, and do not, on their own, indicate any wrongdoing on the part of either individual.
