President Donald Trump said late Wednesday that the United States had no prior knowledge of Israel’s strike on Iran’s South Pars Gas Field and that Qatar was not involved in the attack.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said Israel hit what he described as a small section of the field after acting out of anger over recent events in the Middle East. He said Qatar had no role in the strike and did not know it was going to happen.
Trump said Iran did not know those facts and then attacked part of Qatar’s LNG gas facility. He called that move “unjustifiable” and “unfair.”
Missile attacks hit Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on Wednesday evening, triggering fires and causing extensive damage across parts of the facility, as confirmed by QatarEnergy.
Ras Laffan is one of the most critical energy hubs in the world and the backbone of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas exports. Any disruption at this site carries potential global implications, as Qatar is among the largest LNG suppliers, feeding energy markets across Europe and Asia.
Trump also said no further Israeli attacks would be made on the South Pars field unless Iran attacks Qatar again. He then warned that if Qatar’s LNG infrastructure is targeted again, the United States would destroy the entire South Pars Gas Field, with or without Israel’s help or consent.
Trump said he does not want to authorize that level of force because of what he described as the long-term consequences for Iran. But he added that he would not hesitate to do so if Qatar’s LNG facilities are attacked again.
