President Donald Trump warned Iran on Wednesday that a “massive armada” led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is heading toward the country and could carry out its mission “with speed and violence” if Tehran refuses to negotiate limits on its nuclear ambitions.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged Iran to “come to the table” for what he called a “fair and equitable deal” and repeated his demand for “NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS.” He also threatened a “far worse” attack if Iran does not make a deal, referencing a past U.S. action he called “Operation Midnight Hammer.”
U.S. officials told Reuters earlier this week that the Abraham Lincoln and supporting guided-missile destroyers had entered the Middle East region under U.S. Central Command, expanding options to defend U.S. forces or potentially carry out military action.
Reuters reported that the warships were repositioning from the Asia-Pacific region earlier this month as tensions rise following Iran’s crackdown on protests.
In another note, the Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) announced its multi-day regional readiness exercise, which will demonstrate the ability to employ and sustain combat airpower. The announcement was made by AFCENT.
Iran has previously stated that it will not engage in any negotiations with the U.S. under military pressure and will retaliate if attacked.
