President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Iran shot down a U.S. Army Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz, saying the United States must respond, as military officials confirmed two crew members were rescued safely.
Trump made the claim in a post on Truth Social, saying he had been informed by the military. “I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.

Trump said both pilots are “safe and uninjured.”
Earlier Tuesday, U.S. Central Command confirmed that two crew members from a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache were rescued after their helicopter went down near the coast of Oman at 7:33 p.m. ET on June 8.
CENTCOM said the soldiers were recovered within approximately two hours and are in stable condition. Its statement did not attribute the cause to Iran or to hostile fire.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation, CENTCOM said.
