Trump Says Venezuela Will Send 30–50 Million Barrels of Oil to U.S.

Trump outlines oil transfer plan tied to Venezuela’s interim authorities as sanctions questions remain.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Venezuela’s interim authorities will turn over between 30 million and 50 million barrels of what he described as “high quality, sanctioned oil” to the United States, laying out a plan he said would be carried out immediately.

In the post, according to Truth Social, Trump said the oil would be sold at market price and that the money would be controlled by him “to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.”

Trump said he directed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute the plan “immediately,” and described moving the oil by storage ships and bringing it directly to unloading docks in the United States.

The statement did not identify which “interim authorities” would supply the oil, how the transfer would be arranged, or what legal and logistical steps would be used to complete the shipment and sale.

It was also not clear whether any U.S. agency had issued guidance to implement the plan, or whether Venezuelan officials had publicly confirmed the arrangement.

Trump’s announcement comes as Venezuela remains subject to U.S. sanctions, including restrictions tied to its energy sector. The post did not specify whether any waivers, licenses, or other changes would be required for the oil to move under existing rules.
