President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States is meeting with Iran and that a deal remains possible, while claiming U.S. actions had severely damaged Iran’s military.
Trump made the remarks to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling to Michigan. In a video posted by White House’s Rapid Response 47, Trump said Iran wanted to meet because of what the United States had done.
“We’ll see what happens,” Trump said. “There’s a chance we could make a deal.”
Trump did not identify meeting participants or provide a time, location or agenda.
The president also said the United States has “a lot of ammunition” of different types. He said the country was rebuilding supplies after Biden provided ammunition to Ukraine. Trump added that the United States had more midlevel ammunition than it could use.
Trump also said Iranian money controlled by the United States would pay for unspecified damage he attributed to Iran. He did not say how much money was involved, what damage would be covered or how the funds would be used.
