Trump Threatens to Use ICE to Staff Airports if DHS Funding Bill Fails

President Donald Trump said Saturday that he may use Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to staff airports if a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security is not passed, as delays and security staffing shortages continue to worsen. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had already told ICE to “GET READY” and that he was looking to move the agency in on Monday.

Trump blamed Democrats for what he described as failures at the Department of Homeland Security and said airport security had been hurt by their actions. He wrote that if Democrats do not allow what he called “Just and Proper Security” at airports and elsewhere in the country, ICE would do the job “far better than ever done before.”

In the same post, Trump also attacked Democrats over immigration and border policy, accusing them of allowing criminals into the country through what he called an open-border approach. He said Republicans had shut that down and claimed the country now has the strongest border in its history.

Trump’s statement did not explain how ICE agents would be used at airports or what specific role they would take over. The post also did not say whether any formal action had already been taken beyond his instruction for the agency to prepare.

The warning comes as airport delays and security staffing shortages remain a concern. As of Saturday, Trump’s public position was that ICE could be moved in as early as Monday if the Homeland Security funding bill is not approved.
