President Donald Trump targeted Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar just one day after the State of the Union address. Trump wrote on Truth Social that “Democrats SCREAMED UNCONTROLLABLY and looked like they should be institutionalized.” He further stated that they should be “sent back from where they came.”
This “come after” moment came after a dramatic moment during Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday evening. During the address, Representative Tlaib of Michigan and Representative Omar of Minnesota interrupted Trump repeatedly as he talked about enforcing immigration policies.
According to ABC News, both representatives “shouted that Trump’s policies are ‘killing Americans,’ referencing two Minnesota residents who died after being shot by federal law enforcement agents early this year.” The news outlet further stated that Representative Tlaib “at one point called Trump ‘the most corrupt president,’ stood up, and later yelled, ‘How’s those Epstein files?’”
Representative Tlaib’s background has been a topic of controversy. According to ABC News, Representative Tlaib was “born and raised in Detroit to Palestinian immigrant parents.” Representative Ilhan Omar came to the United States as a child refugee from Somalia and later became a citizen of the country.
Representative Ilhan Omar has asked for an investigation regarding the arrest of her State of the Union guest. In a statement released by Representative Ilhan Omar’s office, it was stated that “Rahman stood quietly in the gallery for a short time and was forcibly removed despite being cautioned about her injured shoulders.” The statement further stated that “Rahman was then charged with unlawful conduct.”
Omar said Rahman was taken to George Washington University Hospital and later booked at U.S. Capitol Police headquarters.
