President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States is starting work to clear the Strait of Hormuz, while declaring that Iran has suffered major military losses.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump rejected media reports that Iran is “winning” and argued the opposite. He said Iran’s navy, air force, air defense systems, radar and missile and drone production capabilities had been largely destroyed.
Trump also wrote that Iran’s longtime leaders are “no longer with us,” but he did not identify them or offer evidence in the post. He further claimed that all 28 of Iran’s mine-laying boats are now “lying at the bottom of the sea.”
He said the United States is “now starting the process of clearing out the Strait of Hormuz” and described it as a move that would benefit countries including China, Japan, South Korea, France and Germany.
Trump also said empty oil tankers from several nations are heading to the United States to load oil. He did not provide details or evidence for that claim.
