Trump Blasts Elon Musk’s ‘America Party’ as “Train Wreck,” Defends Ending EV Mandate

Trump criticizes Musk’s third-party move and defends repealing EV mandate in new post

    Highlights:
    • Trump criticizes Elon Musk for launching a new “America Party.”
    • Calls Musk a “train wreck” and says third parties create “chaos.”
    • Defends killing the federal electric vehicle (EV) mandate.
    • Says Musk previously supported Trump despite anti-EV stance.
    • Questions Musk’s attempt to install a friend as NASA chief.

President Donald Trump delivered a blistering critique of Elon Musk on Truth Social following the billionaire’s announcement of a new third political party, dubbed the “America Party.” Trump accused Musk of turning into a “train wreck” and warned that third-party movements in the U.S. only lead to “disruption and chaos.”

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump wrote. “He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.”

The former president slammed third-party politics as ineffective and destabilizing, arguing the current two-party structure is essential to America’s political stability. “The System seems not designed for them,” Trump noted. “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”

Trump contrasted Musk’s alleged erratic behavior with what he described as a disciplined and productive Republican Party under his leadership. “Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running ‘machine,’ that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country,” he said, referencing the recently enacted One Big Beautiful Bill.

Trump: Ending the EV Mandate Was Key

One point of contention appears to be Trump’s successful push to terminate the federal Electric Vehicle (EV) mandate. The mandate had been promoted under the Biden administration and supported by Musk’s Tesla interests. But Trump made clear that repealing it had long been part of his platform.

“It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time,” Trump said. “People are now allowed to buy whatever they want—Gasoline Powered, Hybrids, or New Technologies.”

Trump claimed that Musk had endorsed him despite knowing of his anti-EV policy: “I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate… He said he had no problems with that—I was very surprised!”

Space Conflict: NASA Leadership and Loyalty Questioned

Trump also revealed a behind-the-scenes detail regarding NASA, saying Musk requested a close friend be appointed to lead the agency. But according to Trump, the candidate turned out to be a Democrat with no history of Republican support.

“Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA… I was surprised to learn that he was a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before.”

He further criticized the potential conflict of interest, arguing it was “inappropriate” for someone deeply tied to Musk’s space ventures to head the nation’s civilian space program.

Final Word: “I Protect the American Public”

In closing, Trump positioned himself as a protector of ordinary Americans against corporate overreach and policy manipulation.

“My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!”
