On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump commented on new reports that Russian drones were flying into Polish territory.
“What’s with Russia violating Poland’s airspace with drones?” Here we go! The short statement he posted on Truth Social , raises a red signal and suggests that things will get worse.
Trump is calling the event a “violation” of Poland’s airspace, which makes it sound like NATO territory was violated. It sounds like he anticipates something unpleasant will come soon, like a formal NATO response, increased air defenses, or greater diplomatic pressure on Moscow, when he says “Here we go!”
There were no details from Trump in the post. He also didn’t indicate what the U.S. would do or if Washington had done a formal review.
Poland is in NATO. If any of the allies think that an attack or incursion is covered by the treaty, they could all talk about it and take action. Military and diplomatic channels normally investigate into airspace mishaps before any public decision is taken regarding what to do next.
Earlier today, Poland said its air force, backed by allied NATO aircraft, shot down multiple drones that violated Polish airspace overnight during a large Russian strike on Ukraine.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk told parliament this was “the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two,” while stressing he has “no reason to believe we’re on the brink of war.” Poland’s Operational Command reported repeated intrusions; officials described the action as an “act of aggression.”
Tusk also posted on X that “those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down,” adding thanks to “our NATO pilots” for assisting over Poland.
