Trump Says U.S. Is Nearing Iran Objectives, Hints at Possible Wind-Down

Trump’s Truth Social post outlined five stated U.S. goals on Iran and raised the prospect of scaling back military efforts in the region.

President Donald Trump said late Friday that the United States is “getting very close” to achieving its military objectives regarding Iran and indicated that Washington may be nearing the point of winding down its military effort in the Middle East, according to a post on Truth Social.

In the post, Trump listed five goals he said the United States is pursuing. They include degrading Iran’s missile capabilities and launch systems, destroying its defense industrial base, eliminating its navy and air force, preventing it from getting close to nuclear capability, and protecting U.S. allies in the Middle East.

Trump also said the Strait of Hormuz should be guarded by other countries that use it, arguing that the United States does not. He said the U.S. would assist those countries if asked, but added that such help should not be necessary once Iran’s threat is eradicated.

He named Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait among the regional allies the United States is seeking to protect.

The statement offered one of Trump’s clearest public outlines of what he said the United States is seeking to achieve in relation to Iran, while pointing to a possible end stage for the current military effort.
