Trump says blocking Iran nuclear weapons is a higher priority than oil gains

Trump says U.S. oil profits are secondary to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that although the United States benefits when oil prices rise, his main concern is preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States is “the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far,” adding that when oil prices go up, “we make a lot of money.”

Trump said that was not his top priority. Instead, he said his greater focus as president is stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and preventing wider destruction in the Middle East and beyond.

“I won’t ever let that happen!” Trump wrote.

The post did not announce any new policy action, military step or diplomatic initiative related to Iran. Trump also did not say what specifically prompted the statement.
