President Donald Trump said Saturday that a new nuclear agreement with Iran is set to be signed Sunday, and that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen to all shipping immediately upon signing.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying the deal would block Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon by buying, building or otherwise obtaining one.
“My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON,” Trump wrote, contrasting his deal with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, known as the JCPOA, negotiated under former President Barack Obama.
Trump said no money would change hands under the new agreement. He alleged the Obama-era deal involved “hundreds of billions of dollars in payments,” including “$1.7 billion in green, cold cash” — a reference to a 2016 cash payment that U.S. officials at the time described as settling a decades-old financial dispute.

Trump said U.S. forces would later retrieve what he called “Nuclear Dust” from underground sites struck by B-2 bombers and destroy it in Iran or the United States.
Trump wrote that Iran “no longer” wants a nuclear weapon. He offered no Iranian statement or document to support the claim.
Trump warned that if the process does not succeed, “we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again.”
