President says new missile shield will protect America from space, hypersonic, and nuclear threats using breakthrough technology.

President says new defense system will make America “impenetrable to all enemies, foreign and domestic”

    Key Points:
    • President Trump announces $175 billion “Golden Dome” missile defense system led by Space Force Gen. Mike Guetlein.
    • System integrates AI, space-based interceptors, high-altitude drones, and hypersonic radar arrays.
    • Canada shows interest in joining; Russia and China raise concerns over strategic stability.
    • Initial $25 billion funding included in “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
    • Testing to begin Q4 2025; full deployment expected before end of Trump’s second term.

President Donald J. Trump has officially launched the “Golden Dome,” a $175 billion state-of-the-art missile defense shield aimed at protecting the United States from all forms of missile attacks. Inspired by Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative, the Golden Dome is designed to cover land, sea, and space defenses with next-generation technologies.

“We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started 40 years ago—forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland.”
    — President Donald J. Trump

    Full Announcement and Q&A

In an official White House press briefing, President Trump unveiled the Golden Dome alongside Secretary Pete Hegseth and General Mike Guetlein.

“We make a historic announcement about the Golden Dome missile defense system,” Trump said. “It’s something Ronald Reagan wanted years ago but didn’t have the technology.”

Trump praised Space Force Vice Chief Gen. Mike Ludly, Senators Dan Sullivan, Kevin Cramer, and Jim Banks, and introduced Gen. Guetlein as the direct reporting program manager. “He’s one of the most respected people in the world having to do with defense. No one is more qualified for this job.”

He stated, “When fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles even if they’re launched from space or across the world. And everything is going to be made in the U.S.A.”

The President also said Canada had reached out expressing interest: “Canada has called us. They want to be part of it. We’ll be talking to them. But they’ll pay their fair share.”

    Strategic Capabilities

The Golden Dome integrates space-based interceptors, AI-powered countermeasure systems, hypersonic radar, and kinetic drones for layered protection. Gen. Guetlein emphasized the urgency of homeland defense:

“Our adversaries have been modernizing their nuclear forces, cruise missiles, and even space weapons. It is time we change that equation.”

According to the administration, the system’s projected success rate is “close to 100%.”

    Secretary Hegseth: ‘A Generational Investment’

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the initiative a fulfillment of President Trump’s promise: “This right here is the Golden Dome for America. It’s a game-changer. A generational investment in the security of Americans.”

Hegseth said the system would protect against “cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, drones—whether conventional or nuclear.”

He credited Trump for creating the Space Force and enabling this new level of national defense leadership: “We have been working since you signed the executive order on January 27.”

    Global and Domestic Reaction

While Canada has shown interest in joining, Russia and China have warned that the system could escalate military tensions. Domestically, the project has prompted partisan division:

    • Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) hailed the move as “long overdue.”
    • Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) criticized the bypassing of congressional oversight in defense budget reallocation.
    • The Congressional Budget Office projected the total cost could reach $500 billion over 20 years.

    Deployment Timeline

Trump confirmed that testing of the Golden Dome system will begin in Q4 2025 at the White Sands Missile Range. “We’ll have it done in about three years,” he said. “This is something that goes a long way toward the survival of this great country.”

He concluded by reiterating: “This is a very exciting project. Nobody else has what we have. It’s super technology.”
