President Donald Trump fired U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday. In a Truth Social post,Trump said Bondi is leaving her post and will move to what he called “a much needed and important new job in the private sector,” with details to be announced later.
Trump praised Bondi, saying, “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year.” “Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900,” he added.
Trump said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will step in as acting attorney general. In the same post, he described Blanche as a “very talented and respected Legal Mind.”
The president did not offer any further explanation for Bondi’s removal beyond saying she is transitioning to a private-sector role.
Associated Press reported that Bondi’s departure was driven in part by backlash over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The report also pointed to criticism over political investigations and internal problems within the Justice Department during her time in office.
