Trump Says He Signed Bill to Release Epstein Files, Accuses Democrats of Deeper Ties

Trump claims near-unanimous vote in Congress and tens of thousands of pages already handed to lawmakers as part of the Epstein files release.

President Donald Trump said Thursday he has signed legislation to release government files related to Jeffrey Epstein and accused leading Democrats of having closer ties to the disgraced financier than Republicans, according to Truth Social.

In a lengthy statement, Trump asserted that Epstein was “a lifelong Democrat,” claiming he had given “thousands of dollars” to Democratic politicians. He also pointed to Epstein’s connections to various individuals, including former President Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Democratic donor Reid Hoffman, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Delegate Stacey Plaskett. He highlighted Clinton’s previous flights on Epstein’s private jet and claimed Jeffries had solicited campaign contributions from Epstein following the criminal indictments.

Trump announced he had “just signed the bill to release the Epstein files,” giving credit to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune for pushing the legislation through Congress at his behest. He claimed the vote was “almost unanimous” and said the Justice Department has already turned over nearly 50,000 pages of documents to lawmakers.

The president drew a sharp contrast, claiming President Joe Biden’s government had failed to act. He asserted that the prior administration “didn’t hand over a single file or page concerning Democrat Epstein, and they never even mentioned him.”

Trump also framed the focus on Epstein as an effort by Democrats to divert attention from what he called Republican “victories,” listing his tax legislation, border policies, efforts to roll back diversity and inclusion initiatives, moves on transgender rights and claims of ending “eight wars” and weakening Iran’s nuclear capability.

He connected the current uproar to previous probes into his behavior, dismissing them as “hoaxes” and “witch hunts,” and predicted that the latest controversy surrounding Epstein would backfire on Democrats.
