Egypt will host delegations from Israel and Hamas on Monday to work through details of a U.S.-backed Gaza ceasefire proposal championed by President Donald Trump, as a group of Arab and Islamic states publicly welcomed Hamas’ response. The latest push came Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025.
Trump said the talks have been “very successful” and are “proceeding rapidly,” adding that technical teams will meet in Egypt on Monday to clarify final points and begin a first phase this week, according to Truth Social. He urged all sides to “move fast.”
In a joint statement, the foreign ministries of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt said they welcomed Trump’s call for Israel to stop the bombing and start implementing an exchange agreement. They called the moment “a real opportunity to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire” and to address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X.
On Friday, Hamas said it accepted several elements of Trump’s 20-point plan while seeking changes to others. Trump had set a Sunday deadline for the group to respond.
The Cairo negotiations are likely to go into specifics of concluding terms and sequencing actions for the first phase of the plan. Follow-up negotiations will have to be carried out to negotiate pending issues prior to the declaration of an all-out ceasefire.
