Gallup Poll: Trump Holds at 36% as Nation Heads Into 2026 Discontented

Gallup’s latest reading shows weak approval across national leaders and a deeply polarized electorate heading into 2026.

President Donald Trump’s job approval rating remains at 36% as Americans head toward 2026 with broad dissatisfaction about national leadership, according to Gallup poll.

Trump’s approval is heavily polarized—89% among Republicans, 25% among independents and 3% among Democrats, the report shows. The rating was steady from the prior month and sat near the low point of his second term, Gallup said.

The survey found no majority approval for any of 12 other national leaders tested across Congress, the Cabinet, the Supreme Court and the Federal Reserve. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell led the list at 44%, followed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 41%, according to Gallup.

According to Gallup, Vice President JD Vance, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Chief Justice John Roberts, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi all had numbers in the mid- to high-30s.

Gallup said the lowest ratings belonged to Senate Republican Leader John Thune at 34% and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer at 28%. Schumer’s standing within his own party has deteriorated sharply over two years, with Democrats now split 39% approval to 56% disapproval, Gallup reported.

On Trump’s personal qualities, Gallup said “strong and decisive leader” was his top attribute, with 48% saying it applies. Only 30% described him as honest and trustworthy, according to Gallup.
