In a surprise announcement posted on his Truth Social account, President Donald J. Trump has appointed former Fox News host and Westchester County District Attorney Judge Jeanine Pirro as the interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” Trump wrote. “She is in a class by herself. Congratulations Jeanine!”
Pirro began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County, New York, later becoming the first woman elected as both County Judge and District Attorney in that jurisdiction. Her most notable achievement in public office was establishing the first Domestic Violence Bureau in any prosecutor’s office in the U.S., which gained her national recognition.
After leaving public office, Pirro became a household name as host of Fox News’ “Justice with Judge Jeanine” for over a decade. She currently co-hosts The Five, one of the network’s highest-rated programs, and remains a vocal supporter of President Trump.
The District of Columbia U.S. Attorney’s Office holds jurisdiction over high-profile cases involving public corruption, federal oversight, and politically charged prosecutions. Trump’s appointment of Pirro is seen as both strategic and symbolic, signaling his intent to install loyalists in key legal positions.
While critics may question Pirro’s objectivity due to her partisan broadcasting history, supporters argue that her extensive legal background and leadership credentials make her more than capable of taking on the interim role.
