As the deadline approached, U.S. President Donald Trump told Iran again that it had 48 hours to make a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said he had previously given Iran 10 days to “MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and added, “Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”
Trump’s latest post did not mention any new talks and shortened the timeline he had described earlier.
The post came a week after Trump said the United States and Iran had held “very good and productive conversations” over the previous two days on what he described as a complete resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.
Earlier on March 23, Trump had also said that he ordered a five-day delay in military strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure while those discussion.
On March 26, President Trump again extended a pause on U.S. military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure by 10 days. He said the pause would remain in effect until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. (ET.) and described the move as being made at the Iranian government’s request. He also said talks were continuing and claimed they were going “very well”.
In a separate Truth Social post on March 26, Trump said Iranian negotiators were “very different and strange” and claimed they were “begging” for a deal while publicly saying they were reviewing a U.S. proposal. He warned that Iran needed to get serious soon and said there would be “no turning back” if it did not.
