    Toyota Hits Record 5.27 Million Sales in Fiscal First Half, Driven by Hybrid Demand

    Toyota’s hybrid sales boost drives record-breaking first-half performance.


    Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s largest carmaker, reported on Monday that it sold 5,267,216 cars in April and September. This is a record for the first half of a fiscal year and a 4.7% increase from the same time previous year. Sales in the U.S. went up 11.3% to 1,295,606 units, and sales in China went up 5.5% to 914,342 units

    Sales in Japan fell by 0.4% to 713,967. Global production for the six-month span increased 6.0% to 4,985,122 units, of which 1,585,622 were made domestically, up 3.4%, the company said.

    In September alone, global sales increased 3.1% over last September to 879,314 units—a ninth consecutive monthly increase—while production increased 11.1% to 918,146 units, both September highs, according to Toyota Motor Corporation.
