Trump Sends Tom Homan to Minnesota for ICE Ops, Cites Fraud Probe

Trump says Homan will oversee ICE operations in Minnesota and coordinate on fraud investigations.

President Donald Trump said Monday that he is sending former acting ICE director Tom Homan to Minnesota “tonight” to manage immigration enforcement operations on the ground and report directly to him.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Homan “will be managing ICE Operations on the ground in Minnesota to continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens,” and said Homan will also coordinate with those leading investigations into what Trump described as “massive, widespread fraud” involving taxpayer funds in the state.

Trump claimed a “20 Billion Dollar, Plus” welfare fraud scheme in Minnesota is “at least partially responsible” for what he called “violent organized protests” in the streets. He did not provide evidence in the post for that assertion, and no documentation was cited in the message to support the dollar figure or the link to protests.

Trump also wrote that the Justice Department and Congress are “looking at” Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, and included an unverified claim about her personal wealth. The post did not detail what inquiry or process he was referencing.

Minnesota has faced heightened attention in recent weeks amid public demonstrations and political conflict over federal enforcement activity. Trump’s announcement adds another flashpoint, tying immigration operations and corruption allegations to broader claims about unrest.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s description of Homan’s assignment. According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on X, “Tom Homan will be managing ICE Operations on the ground in Minnesota to continue arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. In addition, Tom will coordinate with those leading investigations into the massive, widespread fraud that has resulted in billions of taxpayer dollars being stolen from law-abiding citizens in Minnesota.”
