Devastating flash floods in Texas Hill Country have killed at least 104 people, with dozens still missing following a violent surge of the Guadalupe River that swept through central Texas early Friday, according to officials cited by CBS News.

The river rose more than 26 feet in less than an hour, submerging parts of Camp Mystic in Kerr County, a girls’ summer camp with over 700 attendees. Entire cabins were swept away. As of Monday, ten campers and one counselor remained missing, with the death toll expected to rise as search efforts continue.

Camp Mystic said in a statement: “Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly. We have been in communication with local and state authorities who are tirelessly deploying extensive resources to search for our missing girls.”

Senator Ted Cruz also expressed sorrow while visiting Kerr County. “Texas is grieving right now. The pain, the shock of what has transpired these last few days has broken the heart of our state,” he said, describing the tragedy as “every parent’s nightmare.”

Senators Praise President Trump’s Swift Action on Disaster Declaration

On Sunday, U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, both Republicans from Texas, issued a joint statement expressing gratitude to President Donald Trump for swiftly approving Governor Greg Abbott’s request for a federal emergency disaster declaration in response to the flooding in Kerrville and surrounding areas.

“The flooding we are seeing in Central Texas is absolutely devastating. Heidi and I send our heartfelt condolences to all those who have been directly impacted by this natural disaster. We thank President Trump for quickly approving Governor Abbott’s disaster declaration, and Secretary Noem for being on the ground and sending additional personnel to support Texans.” — Sen. Ted Cruz

Cruz also thanked first responders and urged Texans to heed warnings and stay safe. “As Texans, we must remain united in spirit and grit, and support our neighbors as we always do best.”

“The Kerrville community has endured unimaginable devastation, and I thank President Trump for swiftly approving this disaster declaration to ensure every available resource is being utilized in rescue and recovery efforts.” — Sen. John Cornyn

Sen. Cornyn added, “As a lifelong Texan and a father of two, my heart breaks for the families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. I encourage all Texans and Americans to pray for our state and for the safe return of those who are still missing.”
