Taylor Swift to skip Sunday’s MTV VMAs as ‘Showgirl’ rollout ramps up

Swift is expected to miss the VMAs amid “Showgirl” commitments, even as her nominations keep her at the center of the night’s buzz.

People reports that Taylor Swift won’t appear at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, even though she is still a strong contender this year. The concert is happening right now at UBS Arena in New York. The first news source to report she wouldn’t be at the event was E! News.

Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, and Morgan Wallen are all competing for Artist of the Year along with Swift. Fans were still interested in her because she was in the major race of the night.

“The Life of a Showgirl,” her most recent studio album, comes out on October 3. This adds to the speculations that she is putting planning for the week of the release ahead of walking the red carpet. Last month, the project was announced along with more information about its 12 songs.

LL Cool J will host the concert, which will feature performances and tributes from well-known celebrities. People says that Lady Gaga has the most nominations, with 12. She will also be singing with Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, Doja Cat, and other artists.

The VMAs will air on CBS and MTV on Sunday, September 7 at 8 p.m. ET, according to network listings and MTV’s event page. They can also get to them on Paramount+.

On Sunday, you should wait to see if Gaga transforms her leading nominations into victories, how LL Cool J handles the show in its first year on CBS, and whether Swift’s “Showgirl” rollout receives more attention from afar.
