Syrskyi says Russians amassed largest force in Donetsk region for ‘psychological effect’
- Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi visited the frontlines in the Pokrovsk sector of Donetsk.
- He reports about 111,000 Russian troops are massed in this area, making it the largest enemy grouping.
- At least 50 combat clashes occur daily in this hotspot along the 1200-km war front.
- Russia seeks symbolic victory to plant flags and claim territory for psychological effect, Syrskyi said.
- Ukrainian forces destroyed all recent Russian sabotage-assault groups attempting to cross the admin border.
Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported from the frontlines on Saturday, highlighting intense daily combat and the growing Russian concentration of troops in the Pokrovsk direction, part of the embattled Donetsk region.
“Dedicated the day to a working trip to the Pokrovsky direction, which remains the hottest on the entire 1200-kilometer length of the front of the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Syrskyi wrote in a Facebook post. “Every day, at least half a hundred combat clashes take place here.”

According to Syrskyi, the Russian military has massed approximately 111,000 personnel in the Pokrovsk sector, forming the largest concentration of forces along the war’s front line. The area has become a focal point of Russia’s symbolic offensive push.
“Especially actively, sabotage-assault groups of Russians moved here two weeks ago,” he said. “But all of them were destroyed or damaged, and the remains were thrown away from the admin border. The situation is under control.”
The commander added that he personally spoke with frontline Ukrainian soldiers and held briefings with units from both the Armed Forces and the National Guard. “I was able to study the operational environment, find out all the problematic points in detail,” Syrskyi wrote. “Issued the orders required for the effective execution of defensive tasks.”
He ended his message with a tribute to Ukrainian defenders: “Thank you warriors for their bravery and professionalism. Glory to Ukraine!”
