    Nepal: PM Sushila Karki Names Aryal, Khanal, Ghising to Interim Cabinet

    hree ministers named as Karki forms the first slate of her interim cabinet; swearing-in set for Monday.

    VT Staff | Kathmandu: Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karkki has appointed three ministers to her interim government, with names already sent to the Presidential Office for Monday’s swearing-in ceremony, according to VT sources in the President’s office.

    Advocate Omprakash Aryal, who participated in negotiations representing the Janajanajati group, will serve as Home and Law Minister in the interim administration.

    Om Prakash Aryal has been the legal advisor to Balen Shah, the mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in Nepal, since Shah was elected. Aryal is an advocate that has provided legal and strategic advice to the mayor’s office. 

    Former Finance Secretary Rameshwar Khanal takes over the Finance Ministry.

    Mr. Rameshore Prasad Khanal has 31 years of experience in the field of civil service and 16 years of teaching in different academic institutions. He is an ex-finance secretary of the government of Nepal. He led the team to introduce reforms in government accounting and reporting, public procurements, tax policy, and administration. Besides, Mr. Khanal also served as Chairman of the Board in the Agricultural Development Bank and was a Board Director in Nepal Rastra Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nepal Telecom Company, and Nepal Airlines. He was also the council member and executive committee member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal. Similarly, he was the Alternate Governor for Nepal in the World Bank and ADB and was the Political Focal Point for Nepal in the Global Environment Facility. His area of interest includes finance, accounting, and management control systems.

    Former Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director and popular personality Kulman Ghising receives multiple portfolios, including Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development.

    The three appointments represent the initial cabinet formation under Karkki’s cabinet. The oath ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning.

    Sources said that the names of the ministers have been sent to the Presidential Office for official confirmation before the swearing-in ceremony.
