Gen-Z Proposes Ex- Chief Justice Sushila Karki To Lead Civilian Government

Gen-Z names former Chief Justice Sushila Karki in Nepal Army talks; delegates told to pick a coordinator before further negotiations.

Gen-Z representatives met Wednesday at the Nepal Army’s headquarters (Jangi Adda) and formally proposed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead a civilian government, according to participants in the meeting. The proposal was submitted to Army Chief Gen. Ashok Raj Sigdel. A senior military official said, “They mentioned the name of Sushila Karki, although discussions are still ongoing with another group as well.”

According to local news outlets, the Army will also talk with former Chief Justice Karki. Before meeting with the Army Commander, Gen-Z supporters talked about who should lead on Discord. Karki got a lot of support. Some Gen-Z groups tried to find Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balen Shah, but many people said they were upset that he wasn’t available. On Tuesday evening, Shah posted a message urging Gen-Z to be ready for talks with the Army Chief.

Gen-Z delegates arrived at headquarters Wednesday morning. When more than 15 people showed up, Gen. Sigdel asked them to first reach internal consensus and to designate a coordinator before proceeding, according to people present. The group then huddled in a separate room at the complex.

During the internal discussions, some participants even raised alternatives to Nepal’s republican system, prompting a faction associated with another Gen-Z team lead by Rakshya Bom to withdraw, attendees said. By the end of the discussion, they decided to form a civilian government under Karki’s leadership.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
