Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission in Iran’s parliament, wrote Saturday that Iran has prepared a new mechanism to manage commercial vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Azizi said the mechanism was prepared within the framework of Iran’s national sovereignty and what he described as a guarantee of international trade security.
According to Azizi, the plan would manage traffic along a designated route in the Strait of Hormuz and will be unveiled soon.
He said only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran would benefit from the process.
“The necessary fees will be collected for the specialized services provided under this mechanism,” Azizi wrote.
Azizi also said the route would remain closed to operators of what he called the “freedom project.” He did not provide further details in the statement.
