Republicans and at least eight Senate Democratic centrists have reached an agreement to end the government shutdown after 40 days, according to CNN. The understanding was described by people familiar with the talks and comes after negotiations involving Senate GOP leaders and the White House.
The plan would include reopening the government in return for a future Senate vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies, CNN reported. The deal is supposed to make it possible for a vote to restore funding and set up a subsequent test of the subsidy plan that De mocratic moderates like.
Two people familiar with the discussions said the framework drew support from a core group of Democratic centrists whose backing is critical to moving any reopening package through the chamber, CNN said.
If passed, the deal would end the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
