On Friday, a Su-30 fighter jet crashed in Crimea during a scheduled training flight, according to Russian state news agency TASS. According to TASS, Russia’s Defense Ministry said the crew ejected and was evacuated by a ground search-and-rescue team, adding that the pilots’ lives were not in danger. TASS also reported the aircraft was not carrying ammunition.
The defense ministry said the jet crashed at about 11 a.m. Moscow time.
The crash came days after another Russian military aircraft went down over Crimea. In a separate report, TASS said an An-26 military transport plane that had lost contact during a planned flight was later found after crashing into a mountainside. Everyone on board was killed.
The official investigative committee confirmed the death toll in an An-26 military transport plane at 30, including 23 passengers and seven crew members, while earlier reports had listed 29 dead with six crew members, according to TASS. Preliminary report findings reported a technical malfunction, and officials said there was no sign of external impact on the aircraft.
