At least eight people, including children, were killed as Russia struck cities and regions across Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight into Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
A ballistic missile destroyed the family’s home in Radushne, in the Dnipro region. The parents and three children died. Rescuers found two other children alive in the rubble, Zelenskyy said.
As the president posted his update, crews were still digging through a wrecked residential building in Lviv. Dozens more were injured around the country and are being treated, he said.
Strikes landed in at least 10 regions — Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Kharkiv and Sumy among them — damaging or destroying dozens of homes, businesses and infrastructure sites.
The barrage was heavy. Russia launched more than 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, and more than 280 attack drones. Ukraine intercepted more than 260 drones. Combat aircraft and mobile fire teams also shot down cruise missiles, he said.
The president renewed his appeal for faster deliveries of anti-ballistic missiles from Ukraine’s partners. Delays in those deliveries, he said, lead to “this kind of destruction” and loss of life.
Zelenskyy had warned a day earlier that Russia might launch a large attack overnight. He urged people across Ukraine to pay attention to air raid alerts.
