Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that a Russian airstrike hit the village of Yarova in the Donetsk region as people were getting their pensions, killing more than 20 civilians. He said the attack was “brutally savage,” sent his sympathies to the families of the dead, and stated the strike killed “ordinary civilians” at the payment point.
Later, Regional authorities said that more people had died, with at least 21 people hurt, while emergency crews worked at the area near Sloviansk. Independent wire stories also talked about a glide-bomb hit and released video of what happened thereafter that Ukrainian officials sent around.
Zelenskyy called for a coordinated international reaction, saying the US, Europe, and the G20 must take “strong actions” and impose harsher penalties to deter Russia from “bringing death.”
