The Russian Defense Ministry stated on Friday that its troops had taken three additional towns in eastern Ukraine, according to Reuters. These were Pryvillia in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Pishchane, and Tykhe in the Kharkiv region. Reuters said the claims could not be independently verified.
This week, Ukrainian officials told families to abandon dozens of towns and villages around the northeastern city of Kupiansk as the violence got worse. According to Reuters, the Kharkiv regional administration told 409 families, including 601 children, to leave 27 communities. Local officials later added more people to this number.
Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, has also been attacked many times. Local officials told Reuters that guided bomb attacks earlier this week cut power to approximately 30,000 consumers in different areas.
If Moscow’s latest comments are true, they would put more pressure on a length of the front from the Kharkiv border area to the Dnipropetrovsk line. Kyiv has not confirmed the exact places Russia listed on Friday, but Reuters believes that Kyiv is strengthening its fortifications in the northeast and evacuating residents out of areas that are now dangerous.
