Ricky Hatton, the popular British boxer, found dead at his home in Greater Manchester on Sunday. He was 46 years old. The police said they don’t think the death was suspicious.
Richard John Hatton, also known by nicknames such as the Hitman and the People’s Champion, was a British professional boxer who competed between 1997 and 2012, and later worked as a boxing promoter and trainer.
During his boxing career, he held multiple world championships, as well as UK titles, and was named Fighter of the Year in 2015.
In a brief statement, the police said, “Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man.There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances and has been referred to the coroner.”
Hatton has 45 victories and 3 loses when he retired from professional sports. He fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, but his most important win was against Kostya Tszyu in 2005.
Hatton stopped fighting in 2012 after losing a short fight to Vyacheslav Senchenko. He started training and promoting after that. Zhanat Zhakiyanov won the bantamweight world title in 2017. This was his biggest win in the corner. He also fought Marco Antonio Barrera in an exhibition match in 2022, which didn’t count.
Hatton indicated in July that he wanted to go back to professional boxing in Dubai in December.
