Russian President Vladimir Putin told leaders at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Tianjin on Monday that the group has to strengthen its political, economic, and security connections while rejecting “outdated eurocentric models.”
He claimed that the SCO had agreed to the Tianjin Declaration, a plan for development until 2035, and new security accords. These included plans for an anti-extremism campaign and facilities in Tashkent and Dushanbe.
Putin lauded the economic growth of all the member states and asked for more trade in national currencies and shared financial tools. He also emphasized for coordinated energy policy and more contacts between students and academics.
Putin said again that the problem in Ukraine was caused by political changes in Kyiv sponsored by the West and NATO expansion. He also pointed to peace efforts from China, India, and his recent discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump.
During the summit, the Russian leader met with leaders from India, Turkey, Iran, Vietnam, Tajikistan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.
