Philippine Air Force Super Huey crashes during relief mission in Mindanao

Helicopter lost contact en route from Davao City to Butuan City on a damage assessment mission; cause under investigation.

A Philippine Air Force Super Huey helicopter crashed Tuesday in Agusan del Sur while on a relief operation, Xinhua reported.

The Air Force stated that the helicopter was part of a four-ship flight that took off from Davao City to Butuan City to conduct a Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis mission. Communication with the aircraft was lost, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue operation, the service said. Investigation teams have been formed to determine the cause of the mishap. Xinhua reported the Air Force would release further details once verified.

The Super Huey is widely used by the Philippine Air Force for transport, disaster response, and supply missions, especially in remote or weather-affected areas. Xinhua reported that the mission came as the broader Mindanao region deals with heavy rain and flooding from Typhoon Kalmaegi.

No other details on crew or damage were immediately available as the search operations continued. Xinhua said the Air Force urged patience as officials confirm facts and compile findings from the crash site.
