House Oversight Committee subpoenas Pam Bondi for deposition in Epstein review

James Comer’s March 17 letter says the committee wants Bondi’s testimony on DOJ actions tied to Jeffrey Epstein and the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has issued a subpoena requiring Attorney General Pam Bondi to appear for a deposition on April 14 as the panel reviews the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation and its compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, according to a March 17 letter from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The letter says the committee voted on March 4, 2026, to approve a motion directing the panel to authorize and issue a subpoena for Bondi’s deposition. Comer wrote that the committee is examining the possible mismanagement of the federal government’s investigation of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death and the investigations that followed, the operation of sex-trafficking rings, and possible ethics violations involving elected officials.

Comer said the committee has questions about the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein investigation and its compliance with the transparency law. The letter states that Bondi, as attorney general, is directly responsible for overseeing the department’s collection, review, and release determinations regarding files covered by the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

According to the letter, the committee believes Bondi may have valuable insight into those efforts. It said the results of the investigation could help inform possible legislative changes aimed at improving federal anti-sex-trafficking efforts and reforming the use of non-prosecution agreements or plea agreements in sex-crime investigations.

The letter also cites House rules that the committee says give it authority to investigate matters and compel testimony and documents by subpoena.
