Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a bill renaming Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, according to the Florida Senate. The law takes effect on July 1, 2026.
The measure, HB 919, gives the state control over the naming of major commercial service airports and writes the names of Florida’s seven largest commercial airports into law. Palm Beach International is the only airport covered by the bill that would receive a new name.
Even so, the change still depends on federal and legal steps. The Senate bill summary says the new name is subject to approval by the Federal Aviation Administration and an agreement with the rights holders allowing Palm Beach County to use the name at no cost.
Under the law, government records created on or after July 1, 2026, that refer to a major commercial service airport must use the name listed in the statute. The bill also says an airport’s name is a branding designation, meaning the change does not create a new legal entity or require existing documents to be rewritten.
The bill cleared the Florida House by an 81-30 vote and passed the Senate 25-11 before reaching DeSantis’ desk. The Senate bill page lists the measure as approved by the governor on March 30, 2026.
