House Passes ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ by Narrow 215-214 Vote

The Trump-backed bill passed 215–214 in a late-night floor vote with no Democratic support, revealing deep partisan divisions ahead of its Senate battle.

    Key Points:
    • The House of Representatives passed H.R.1, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” with a razor-thin 215–214 vote.
    • All Democrats and two Republicans opposed the legislation after a lengthy all-night debate.
    • Republicans had only a three-vote margin in the tightly divided House chamber.
    • The bill is considered a key legislative priority for Speaker Mike Johnson and President Trump.
    • The bill now advances to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain amid intense partisan divisions.

The House of Representatives has narrowly passed the H.R.1 – One Big Beautiful Bill Act in a 215–214 vote, marking a significant but deeply polarizing legislative victory for the Republican leadership and the Trump administration.

The final vote came after a marathon overnight session filled with procedural standoffs, amendments, and impassioned floor speeches from both sides of the aisle. All Democrats voted against the measure, joined by two Republican lawmakers who cited “constitutional and fiscal concerns.”

Republicans held on to just three votes of breathing room in the closely-divided House, making the passage one of the most suspenseful floor showdowns of the 119th Congress to date.

“This bill is the backbone of our national renewal. We promised big, beautiful reforms—and now, we’ve delivered a big, beautiful bill for the American people.”
    — House Speaker Mike Johnson

House Republicans hailed the bill’s passage as a transformative moment, calling it a “legislative cornerstone” of the Trump administration’s second-term agenda. House Speaker Mike Johnson praised the effort, saying it proves the GOP can govern boldly and decisively.

Critics, however, slammed the bill’s sweeping provisions and lack of bipartisan support. Democratic leaders accused Republicans of ramming through a package that prioritizes ideological victories over practical solutions for working Americans.

“They’ve written a bill so packed with partisan overreach that even some in their own party couldn’t stomach it,” said Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on the House floor during final remarks.

Now that the bill has cleared the House, it faces a tougher climb in the Senate, where Democrats still hold enough seats to block it or force major amendments. Republican Senate leaders have vowed to push the measure through before the July recess.
