Ten writ petitions challenging Nepal’s latest dissolution of the House of Representatives were filed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, and the court has set an initial hearing for Oct. 29, according to Rising Nepal.
Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala said the petitions will go before the Constitutional Bench. The filings seek a mandamus order to annul the appointment of the prime minister, overturn the dissolution of Parliament, and reinstate the House, the outlet reported.
The court has largely suspended regular operations since Sept. 9, when the Supreme Court complex was set on fire during Gen-Z protests, and has been hearing only habeas corpus matters in the interim.
Petitioners include Advocates Dr. Premraj Silwal, Yubaraj Poudel, Kirtinath Sharma Poudel, Ayush Badal, Maqbul Miyan, Khadga Bahadur Shah, Dambar Prasad Siwakoti, Dal Bahadur Dhami, Prakash Bhujel, and Bipin Dhakal, TRN reported.
Nepal’s Gen-Z– movement protests on Sept. 8–9, 2025, triggered the government’s collapse and the dissolution of Parliament. Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was nominated and sworn in as interim prime minister on Sept. 12, 2025.
