The government of Nepal has recalled 11 resident ambassadors as a result of a Cabinet decision on Thursday.
Government spokesperson and Communications Minister Jagadish Kharel said the recalls cover posts in China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan. The envoys are: Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli (China); Dr. Shail Rupakheti (Germany); Prof. Dhan Prasad Pandit (Israel); Dr. Netra Prasad Timilsina (Malaysia); Ramesh Chandra Poudel (Qatar); Jung Bahadur Chauhan (Russia); Naresh Bikram Dhakal (Saudi Arabia); Sanil Nepal (Spain); Chandra Kumar Ghimire (United Kingdom); Lokdarshan Regmi (United States); and Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi (Japan), Kharel said.
The Cabinet also approved the acceptance of a USD 10 million grant from the Multidonor Trust Fund of the World Bank for the Public Finance Management Project, The Rising Nepal reported.
In the power sector, ministers sanctioned setting up two joint ventures between Nepal Electricity Authority and Power Grid Corporation of India to develop Inaruwa–Purnia and Dodhara–Bareilly 400 kV cross-border transmission lines. The government approved NEA capital investment of Rs 1 billion and Rs 2 billion, respectively, for the projects.
On legal assistance, the Cabinet approved a draft of a “Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty” with India and authorized Nepal to negotiate MLAT for criminal cases with other nations as required on a diplomatic level.
In a separate development, the government gave the green light to the master plan of the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground Project in Kirtipur, declared it a national project of priority, and authorized the remaining works under the plan to be bid out.
Personnel action included promotion of Jitendra Babu Thapaliya, Registrar, Nepal Judicial Service (Gazetted First Class), to Gazetted Special Category and appointment as Secretary of the Council. Acting Deputy Attorney General Uddhav Prasad Pudasaini was promoted to Special Class and appointed as Secretary of the Commission of Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons.
