NATO Downs Iranian Missile After It Enters Turkish Airspace

NATO and Turkey said the missile was neutralized after entering Turkish airspace in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

NATO said Monday it intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile heading toward Türkiye, while Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense said the projectile had entered Turkish airspace before it was neutralized by alliance air and missile defense assets in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In a statement on Monday, NATO’s spokesperson said it had “again successfully intercepted” an Iranian ballistic missile heading to Türkiye and said it was prepared for such threats and would do what was necessary to defend all allies.

Releasing a statement, Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense said the ballistic munition was determined to have been launched from Iran and later entered Turkish airspace. The ministry said all necessary measures were being taken against threats to the country’s territory and airspace and that developments in the region were being closely monitored with national security as the priority.
