TMZ reported it received an email from a person claiming to know the identity of the kidnapper of missing Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie and demanding payment of 1 Bitcoin in exchange for the information.
Around just after 8 a.m. Thursday, Pacific time, TMZ said it received a second email from the individual. In the email, the individual wrote, “I am not being taken seriously,” and said that the situation had changed since the first email was sent the day before.
TMZ said it is helping the police with the investigation and has chosen to keep details of the emails it received a secret.
In the email sent on Wednesday, the individual demanded to be paid 1 Bitcoin, which equates to $66,000, in exchange for the information on the kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie. In the email, the individual said that the money will enable them to “lay low” after identifying the kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie, as they fear for their own safety. The individual also said that they fear being “incriminated” like “Carlos,” a delivery driver who was arrested and later released. TMZ said that it has not made any payment in the form of Bitcoin to the individual.
Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was last seen on January 31, after she was dropped off at her home in the Tucson area, and went missing on February 1.
Authorities have released pictures of a masked individual who was near Nancy’s home and are asking neighbors to look for videos of Nancy on specific time windows on January 31.
